independent reading BLOGGGG
In The Road evil is not only attractive but also necessary for survival. The son and father and forced to continue through hording food and killing off threats. In this case evil is very attractive and ultimately necessary. It can be argued that these acts are not evil due to the situation...
Evil Portraits
In James Joyce's novel The Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man the idea that evil is attractive is very profound. The main character Stephen must decide between his religious upbringings or to bercome an artidt, his dream. Ultimately through the stream of conciousness that the reader witness Stephen follws his dreams an becomes as artidt. Stephen is attracted to the evils such as prositiues. He falls into the trap un\til he realizes what the future holds for him. This coming of age story allows evil to turn into thye realization of expectations of happiness and success.

Society Knows Evil
"What does, or ought to, separate us then is our highly developed sense of morality, a primal understanding of good and bad, of right and wrong, of what it means to suffer not only our own pain—something anything with a rudimentary nervous system can do—but also the pain of others. That quality is the distilled essence of what it means to be human. Why it's an essence that so often spoils, no one can say. " -Time Magizine
If humans develop a sense of right from wrong then why is evil still attractive? Throughout time humans deals with moral decision or good and bad. Somehow although the right thing is drilled into people's mind evil overcomes and ultimately wins. Evil things are usually wrong and immoral but still attractive for some reason. Maybe is the urge to rebel or try something new but why do people choose evil when they clearly know its wrong. Is it really human nature to be evil, are we naturally good or evil? Are there good people and evil people and theres no changing who you are? Evilness overtake a person and is hard to break free from but why are humans constantly attracted to evil?

Crime and Punnishment Reveals
Raskolnikov, the main character, in Crime and Punnishment deals with the issue of why evil is so attractive. He comits a severe crime and does not see his actions as being wrong. He dewls on the idea of "the extraordinary man" which explains that it is ok to kill a bad person. Therefore he kills the old pawn shop lady because she had done evil to others by cheating them out of their money. He does not feel gulit or remorse for a good portion of the novel and continues to live his life with this crime over his head. In this case I do not believe that Raskolnikov is attracted to the evil of killing this woman but rather trying to be good by "saving the world of her evilness." Ultimately he is evil though becasue he has comiited a very evil act even though he might not have perceived it as wrong.

Post 3: Henry IV likes My Question
In Henry IV the character of Hal is greatly influenced by evil and the attractiveness of it. Hal has a need to create havic and do evil. What becomes very interesting in the play is Hal's two characters, he steals and lies by night but by day is a prince to the people. Hal is attracted to evil due to the pleasure and 'reward' that results from his actions. He finds civil life boring and creates issues for enjoyment. Twards the end of the play Hals character devolps to the point that he matures and realizes that evil is not as rewarding as he had thought, he wants to honor his father and potiently be a future king. Evil becomes less and less attractive and more unrealistic for life to Hal.
Post 2: Oedipus Relates to My Question
Although Oedipus made several 'wrong' decisions unknowingly, the role of evil play a major role in the story. Oedipus was not necessarily attracted to evil doing but his fate along with his willingness cuases him to marry his mother and murder his own father. Evil aurrounds us and taunts us in everyday life. It is a questions if you as a person can withstand this pressure and over come evil or if the power to do wrong is too strong and you crumble. Oedipus does not exactly understand what he is doing but realizes that it is wrong and evil. He tests his own strengths and eventually learns that the evil 'force' took over and caused him to act unrioghtously.
Post 1:My Big Question
?- Why is evil attractive?
It always comes back to the idea that doing the right thing usually is harder than doing the wrong thing. It is eaiser to say yes to doing something evil than it is to say no and give an explination. Peer pressure plays a huge role in choosong what to do. Many people fear judgement and redicule and take the eaiser way out by just saying yes and going along withn the flow. Evil is not only interpreted by doing something evil throughts or doing evil things. Evil can definately be more fun but it has consequences sometimes not apparent at first. Guilt is one of the major down-side to doing/thinking/feeling an evil thing.
